Kid to Kid Corner

Welcome to our Kid to Kid Corner where the Barclay School students share what it’s like to be a student at Barclay to other kids who may be interested in the school.  The most recent posts will be at the top.  Enjoy!

The older kids made a PowerPoint for Dr. G’s birthday!

When preparing to create a documentary video about the school, one student wrote:  “I want the audience to remember that The Barclay School is a school for different kids that learn differently.  It could be learning by hearing, by touching, or even through visual learning.  The Barclay School is an amazing place for people who learn differently and if you want a good school for your child.  I think that learning is really important, and I know that I’m able to learn more (and I’m doing really good at math) than I was at my two other schools.  Also, at The Barclay School, everyone is family.  When you graduate from this school, you will graduate knowing more than you did when you first came to this school.  I know that when I first came to Barclay I didn’t like to read, and now I read a lot because reading makes me smarter.  And that’s what I want people to know about the school.”  -Alyx

“When you come to our school, be ready to be greeted by not one but two Saint Bernards named Beattie and Claire.  We also have Tink, Dr. G.’s little dog.  We also have a bunny named Toby, a lot of unnamed fish, Jeremiah the Gekko, and Percy the Parrollet.  Soon we will be getting bees, mice of unusual size (A.K.A. rats), and goats and chickens for sure.”  – Joe

“Weekly Activities:  When you come to our school, be ready to get messy with art, prepare for pottery, and get limber with yoga.  And we also have two breaks during the day:  snack and lunch.  After we eat our food, we play outside when the weather is good.  But when it’s not, we stay in, play games, and spend time with the animals.” – J.J.

“Dress for Mess:  Here at the Barclay School we don’t have uniforms.  We like to dress for mess.  You never know what we will be doing:  gardening, painting, or even getting covered in bubbles.  This school isn’t a sort of place for nice clothes.  We like to dress comfortably and in clothes that can get messy.  It would be wise to wear close-toed shoes, so we can run around without worry.  Even the teachers dress for mess!” – Ronan

“Hi my name is Ronan!  I am a student at the Barclay School.  Barclay is a school for people who learn differently.  All of the students here have their own different way of learning, it doesn’t stop us from learning.  It simply makes us unique in our own special ways.

The head of our school is Dr.G!  She’s pretty awesome and sometimes has a great sense of humor, the key word being ‘sometimes.’  She loves ELA just like me!  Dr.G teaches the older kids ELA and we always get some pretty awesome books like Macbeth and Oliver Twist.

Another teacher is Miss Edith, she sometimes brings her dogs, Beattie and Claire, to the school!  She’s also a great science teacher.  Right now the older kids are learning Biology in her class.

We have other teachers like Bonnie, Valerie, Darlene, Hannah and many more.  Every day of the week we have a new activity.  For instance on Wednesdays we have music with Mr. Allen and Karate with Nathan!  We have lots of animals like fish, cats, and dogs!  As well as pigs, horses and even goats soon!

Each and every day at my school we have a new adventure.  The Barclay School is the school for me and I wouldn’t trade anything in the world to not go to my school.” – Ronan
